At the beginning of 2020, the world was stunned when we lost the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and 7 others in a tragic accident. Now, to pay homage to the life of a legend, Nike is honoring the Black Mamba with a full week drops that will continue his legacy. Mamba week starts on August 23rd and will continue until the 29th.
The week is lined up with a selection of nostalgic pieces with the first one being the Kobe 5 Protros "Big Stage". This shoe reps a black, white, and gold color scheme with an intricate design on the outside of the shoe. This shoe pays homage to Kobe's 5th NBA championship in the '09-'10 season
Next up on the Protros list are the "5x Champion". This sneaker utilizes the iconic Laker colors, which is another nod to the winning team The Mamba created on the Lakers.
Next, we have a Greek mythology-inspired shoe. This shoe takes inspiration from Medusa, the woman with snakes as her hair that was able to freeze up an opponent with just one look, similar to The Mamba. The "EBYL Girls" sports a scaly textured outside representing the skin of a snake.
UNDEFEATED has teamed up with Nike to produce a "What If" pack. Originally, Kobe was a 13th draft pick by the Charlotte Hornets in '96 but immediately traded to the Lakers. The ensemble of colors is a direct hit to the 12 teams that passed up this legend.
Lastly, we have the Black Mamba inspired jerseys with his iconic numbers 8 and 24 with 16 stars running down the side.
Kobe Bryant was an icon, a living legend whose philosophies, work ethic, and morals inspired not just people in basketball but in all sports. He continuously inspired people on and off the court touching the hearts of many. All items will be sold on Nike SNKRS.
